The licence question in plain words
A Polish graduate becomes a fully licensed doctor in Poland after passing the LEK and completing a postgraduate internship of about 13 months, organised through the regional medical chamber, in Polish. A foreign graduate of an English programme follows the same route and must also pass a Polish-language exam held by the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists.
In other words, an Indian graduate is eligible for a Polish licence under the same conditions as a Polish one, plus the language test. That is what the FMGL asks for. In practice it means you should learn Polish from the first year, not because the course needs it, but to keep this door open. Two schools make the internship easier: Łódź and Szczecin run internships of about six months in English for their graduates.

What to ask the university, in writing
- Is the whole MD taught in English, in Poland, at your institution?
- How is the clinical training of the sixth year documented, and can you provide a certificate of 12 months of internship?
- Will the diploma entitle me to apply for the LEK and the postgraduate internship on the same terms as a Polish graduate?
- Which Polish-language level is required for the licence, and do you teach Polish during the course?
- Have your graduates registered with the NMC? Can you put me in touch with one?
Keep the replies. They are useful if questions come up when you apply for FMGE.
After you return to India
You pass the FMGE screening test (to be replaced by NExT) and complete the internship the NMC prescribes before permanent registration. See how Polish graduates have done in FMGE.
The NMC updates its rules from time to time. Read the current text on its website before you pay a deposit.
