Poland Student Visa Rejection Reasons and How Indian Students Can Avoid Them

Polish consuls refuse a national (D) visa on a short list of legal grounds in the Act on Foreigners. For students, three cause most refusals: doubts that the purpose is really study, not enough money, and documents that are incomplete or not properly legalised.

Under the Act on Foreigners, a consul refuses a national visa if any one of these applies:

  • you are on the list of undesirable foreigners or in the Schengen Information System, or security or public order require refusal;
  • you do not have enough money for the stay and the return journey;
  • you have no health insurance;
  • you gave false information, forged documents or concealed the truth;
  • the purpose and conditions of the stay are not justified;
  • there are justified doubts about the credibility of the stated purpose.

For students, the law adds two more: the university operates mainly to help people enter Poland illegally, or you used an earlier visa for another purpose or were removed from a student list.

The common problems in Indian files

  • Documents not legalised. Indian educational documents need an MEA apostille and authentication by the Regional Authentication Centre of the state that issued them. Missing steps are a frequent cause of delays and refusals.
  • Funds. You need PLN 1,010 a month plus accommodation and PLN 2,500 for the journey home. Sudden large deposits without an explanation look suspicious; show the source.
  • Insurance. Travel medical insurance of at least €30,000.
  • A weak study plan. If you cannot explain why this programme, why this university and why Poland, the consul may doubt the purpose. Gaps in education and an unrelated programme need a clear explanation.
  • A doubtful university. Admission from a private institution with a poor record invites questions. Check the MSWiA register.

Poland student visa refusals: Frequently Asked Questions

Can I appeal a Polish student visa refusal?

Yes. You can ask the consul to reconsider the decision within 14 days of collecting your passport with the refusal. The visa fee is not refunded.

Does a refusal stop me from applying again?

No, you can apply again with a stronger file, but you must explain or fix the reason for the first refusal. Hiding a previous refusal is itself a ground for refusal.

How long does the Polish consulate take?

Usually within 15 days of the appointment, up to 30 days in justified cases.
