Learn Polish Before and During Your Studies: Do You Need It, Courses and Fees

You do not need Polish to be admitted to an English programme. You will want it for part-time jobs outside IT, for dealing with offices and landlords and, for doctors, for clinical years and the licence. Universities teach it in courses from a month to a full year.

While you study

Most universities offer Polish classes to their international students, and medical universities include Polish in the curriculum. Take them from the first semester: even A2 Polish makes part-time jobs, doctor visits and the residence office easier. See Polish for medical students.

Is Polish needed to study in Poland?

Not for English-taught programmes. Polish-taught programmes require it, usually at B2, often after a preparatory year.

Is Polish hard for Indians?

It has a difficult grammar, but students who take classes from the first semester can manage daily conversation within a year. Many universities offer free or cheap Polish classes to their international students.

What are NAWA summer courses?

Free two- to four-week Polish courses at Polish universities in July and August, run by NAWA for students of foreign universities. Check the next call on NAWA's website; the 2026 round is over.
