What the law says
Article 7(3) of the Act on the professions of doctor and dentist allows a non-EU foreigner to practise in Poland if they studied medicine in Polish or proved the Polish needed for the job in an exam run by the Supreme Medical Council. Graduates of English Divisions take the second route. A graduate then passes the LEK and completes the postgraduate internship of about 13 months.

Polish in the curriculum
English Divisions include Polish classes, usually in the first years; the curricula we saw list around 30–60 hours, for example "Polish for Medicine" at the Medical University of Warsaw. That is enough for basic phrases, not for taking a patient's history. Students who reach a working level usually add evening courses or a summer course.

A realistic plan
- Years 1–2: take every Polish class offered; aim for A2.
- Years 3–4: use Polish on clinical rotations; aim for B1, and consider a summer course.
- Years 5–6: aim for B2 and prepare for the Supreme Medical Council exam if you may stay in Poland.
