Studying in Kraków for Indian Students: Universities, Dorm Rents in Rupees and Student Life

Kraków is Poland's second city and its biggest student town: the Jagiellonian University, founded in 1364, and AGH, one of the strongest technical universities, are both here. The city has a large IT and business-services sector and is cheaper than Warsaw, though rents have risen fast.

Dorms and rent

AGH runs one of the largest student campuses in Poland, the Miasteczko Studenckie, with dorm places at PLN 550–765 a month, about ₹13,300 to ₹18,500. The Jagiellonian and the University of Economics have their own dorms; ask early, because demand from international students is high. A room in a shared flat costs noticeably more, especially near the old town.

Getting around

Trams and buses cover the city. Students pay PLN 470 for an annual ticket valid in zone I, which covers the city. Kraków Airport at Balice is linked to the centre by train.

Weather

The average January is −1.6 °C and July 19.3 °C. Kraków lies in a valley, and in winter, smog can build up on still days; the city has banned coal heating, which has helped.

Jobs

Kraków is one of Europe's largest centres for business-services and IT offices, many of them using English. That makes part-time and graduate work easier to find than in smaller cities. Check the work rules for your university.
